- Petite Valse #1 by Danaë Xanthe Vlasse;
For Late Beginner, or Early-Intermediate Pianist. Approximately 3’40.”
Program Notes:
This waltz was written in honor of the birth of a baby girl whose name is celebrated in the melodic contours of the piece. The tenderness of this piece suggests the sweetness of a parent cradling a newborn baby to sleep.
Early level students will be challenged by the movement of the hands to varying placements on the keys, but the rhythms are easy to read and the work is full of patterns (including short scale work) which should seem familiar and accessible. Students' attention should be on balancing voicing and shaping the simple phrases, while maintaining a lightness and buoyancy in their motions in order to better convey the motion of a dance; it is never too early to prepare for the lovely waltzes of the great Romantic composers! - Many of Mrs. Vlasse's compositions are published by bpr music. Contact the composer to obtain scores for anything not sold through bpr music.
