Nocturne #3 by Danaë Xanthe Vlasse;
For Early Advanced Pianist. Approximately 7'03.”
The piece is in a traditional Turnary Form (ABA structure);
The A-section uses a traditional arpeggiated accompaniment with soaring melodic material in the treble.
The B-section allows the Left Hand to take over the melody and requires strong internal voicing. This section will also challenge students to coordinate 3 against 4 (triplets against sixteenth notes).
Throughout the piece the melody is designed to float freely over the harmonies and requires the use of rubato as well as constant dynamic shaping.
It is a work designed to introduce and reinforce some advanced technical concepts without overwhelming the student because the work is well divided into sections that allow for concentrated sectional practice.
